A portrait painted by hand, made to be handed down.

A commissioned oil portrait is one of the few things a family keeps for generations. With more than 30 years as a professional artist, I paint portraits of parents and grandparents, children, couples, leaders, and the pets who are part of the family, each one by hand, one at a time.

How It Works

  1. Consultation. We talk about who is being painted, where the portrait will hang, and the feeling you want it to have.
  2. Reference. A photography session to capture pose, light and expression, or I can work from photographs you provide.
  3. Composition. You approve the composition before painting begins.
  4. Painting. Approximately 6 to 8 weeks in the studio, plus drying time before final varnish.
  5. Delivery. Your finished portrait, signed and ready to frame and hang.

Commitment to Quality

Only the highest quality professional oil paints and materials are used, so your portrait can be enjoyed for generations. Portraits can be painted with a simple, softly painted background or in a fuller setting such as a garden, a favorite room, or a meaningful landscape.

Fees

Every portrait is different, so fees depend on the number of subjects, how much of the figure is shown, and the setting. Send a short note below and I’ll reply with my Commission Guide, which covers fees, timing and next steps.
